Eid Al Fitr family celebrations
Doha, Qatar. 15 July 2015. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum (FBQ Museum) has announced a packed programme of Eid Al Fitr family celebrations. The Museum is inviting families in Doha to celebrate the Eid holiday at the Museum with a special tour accompanied by experienced tour guides around the collections and a series of artistic workshops and activities. Families can choose from a Painting, Calligraphy, Collage, Clay Sculpture and Drawing Workshop, all led by education specialists with each workshop costing QR60 per participant per session.
The Painting Workshop, held on Sunday 19th July from 10.30am to 11.30 am and Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st from 10am to 11am, aims to inspire the families taking part with the extraordinary FBQ Museum collections to paint. Participants will be able to draw on the collection themes and use their creative energies to produce their own artwork that they can then take home to frame or give as a gift to a special person.
The Calligraphy Workshop, held twice a day on Sunday 19th July from 10.30am to 11.30 am as well as 2pm to 3pm and Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st from 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm, will see the Museum’s Arabic Calligraphy Artist teaching children and adults the art of Arabic Calligraphy and its uses in different art forms and objects. Families will be able to distinguish the different styles of Arabic Calligraphy to produce artwork themselves. Since the inception of Islamic Art, Arabic Calligraphy has been an important art form which Muslims and Arabs have used to decorate their homes.
For the Collage Workshop, held from 1pm to 2pm on all three days of Eid, the use of recycled paper, magazines and newspapers, will help participants to create a collage. Those taking part are encouraged to bring with them old magazines and newspapers to be recycled at the Workshop to develop fantastic artworks. Everyone will learn how to produce a collage which they can take home at the end of the session.
Another Workshop is for Clay Sculpture, held morning and afternoon from 10.30am – 11.30am and 3pm – 4pm on all three days of Eid, to train participants on how to manipulate clay to produce small scale sculptures. Known to be a particularly messy activity, the Workshop will bring out the pottery artist in all who take part. This activity gives budding clay sculptors complete artistic freedom so they can come up with different forms and shapes to convey their creative vision.
Finally, the Drawing Workshop will be held from 3.30pm – 4.30pm each day of Eid, to inspire participants after viewing the Museum’s collections. As every drawing starts with a line and is the result of many lines merging images and forms to represent ideas and stories, in this Workshop participants have the chance to move through the museum, look at the collections and draw their impressions of the artworks of the museum. At the end of this workshop all participants will hopefully feel they have mastered the art and know how to start and finish a drawing of their own.
The museum will be open all day during the Eid holidays from 10am to 7pm but it is necessary to book your visit by going to the website ww.fbqmuseum.org or calling the museum on 6687 4177.
